POEM: THE SPECTRAL GEOGRAPHY OF BERLIN

You visit the

“Centre” of Berlin,

Where the Wall once

Divided;

And you see…

A shining

Black

Monolith:

Central Station.

You see

Engreened

Spaces.

But they are Empty,

Spectral,

Haunted,

Unreal,

Mirroring

The erstwhile

Gap

Between both sides of

The Wall,

The No-Mans-Land,

Where a lone church

“Survived”-

In Ruins.

You witness

(today) an

Architectural jumble

And a

Void.

Will Berlin

Ever

Overcome its

Wounds?

  1. The lines ” ‘Survived’ / In Ruins” I like so much that I may be tempted to steal. Thank you, Steve, for the latest poem that explores ruins and examines history. Love, Merry
